Seddon Shield Challenge

Marlborough battered its way through a game but outweighed and out-played Golden Bay-Motueka side to retain the Seddon Shield, when the two unions met. at Motueka last month. Undoubtedly the Marlborough forwards paved the way for the win, but, as usual, nothing was left to chance. Backs and forwards erected an impenetrable cover defence and the backing-up by all players allowed Marlborough to maintain pressure. Marlborough, leading only 8-3 at half-time, crunched through the second half to score another 17 points to win 25-6.
