Trig Station Emerges

Nelson Jaycee's 21st birthday present to the city, a swept-up trig station to replace the old wooden structure on top of Botanical Hill, emerged from its cocoon of boxing earlier this month to reveal the futuristic and very un-trig-like structure at left. This very handsome station, designed as far back as 1948, will also contain seats from which hill walkers will be able to rest and admire the wonderful panorama of Nelson city below. Working on the project the day we called were John Fryer (left), Eric Petersen (above), Trev Devine (convenor) and Val Mead (far left), Malcolm Saunders (bottom left), Peter Wilkens (left) and Gary Way (below). The station is to be handed over to the city on August 16. Well done, Jaycees.
