Queen's Birthday Sport
Nelson representative teams didn't do too well in representative games played on Queen's Birthday. In fact the only win of any consequence-and a good win it was - went to the men's hockey side. It downed a Canterbury team 5-1 on a soggy ground at the Botanies. The women's hockey teams lost both games to Marlborough, the A-game 5-2 and the B-game 2-0. On the Rugby front Golden Bay-Motueka capitalised on many Nelson mistakes and played crisp Rugby to win 14-9.
An incident from the Rugby match, with Nelson forwards attempting to break through the Bay's defences as the ball comes back from a lineout.
A melee in front of the Marlborough goal finished with a crash (far left). At left, Nelson player Heather Wilson about to shoot.
From this mix-up in front of the Canterbury goal, Nelson scored.
