Highfire wins cup

Out of form Highfire struck form at the right time and took with him the Caltex Cup when he won the main event on the two day winter meeting of the Nelson Trotting Club. Owner-trainer-driver Cecil Devine also walked off with the trophies for trainer and driver - a clean sweep. A very heavy track prevented Nelson-owned horse Trafalgar from overcoming his 84 yd handicap but he ran magnificently to take third place. Above, Devine receives the cup.

We have recorded here some of the faces of patrons as they studied the tote, the odds, and the horses before placing their bets.
