Meet a motoring millionaire, but not of the Henry Ford variety. This is Bill McGlaughlan, senior driver with Newman's Coach Lines. Bill has been driving for 42 years, 27 of them with Newmans in the North and South Islands. He reckons he's covered more than 2 million miles in that time. Bill's home is in Blenheim, but there are few places, in the South Island particularly, where he's not known. When not behind the wheel, you'll find him out fishing or behind the wheel of his boat. Bill has one son - also employed by Newmans.

Meet John Donkin and Murdoch Stirling, a couple of painters with Modern Painters, Nelson. John came to Nelson from Sunderland, England, and has been here about three years. He's married, with one daughter, and is keen on soccer (United seniors) and fishing. His colleague, Murdoch, has been in Nelson 2½ years and New Zealand 12 years. He came here from Glasgow. He's married, with two boys and likes golf, fishing and darts (for Hotel Nelson).

One of Nelson's well-known citizens is hairdresser Ian Boyes, who runs his own business in Hardy Street. Ian has been using his clippers for 33 years. He's married, with two boys and a girl, and served overseas with the 26th Battalion for 5 years during the Second World War. His interests include singing (male voice choir) gardening and an odd game of golf.51
