Let's explain from the outset - we don't know who the grand Nelson snail-racing champion is. We didn't have time to stand around and see the finish of the 15 in dash. But we did hear that the champion set an all-time speed record-something like three hours. But who cares who won? Station 2ZN staff is to be congratulated on dreaming up this interesting holiday caper for the children. Hundreds turned out with snails of all sizes and dressed up real fancy. It was very evident that many entries, like those of Ian Stent and Frances Joyce (above), had been the subject of a lot of thought.
