Huge Cool Stores

The second huge cool store erected on McGlashen Quay for the New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board was opened last month. To perpetuate the names of some of the "pioneers" in the industry, the two stores have been named - the first store after Mr Graeme McMurtry and the new one after Mr Frank Archer, former president of the Fruitgrowers' Federation. The two stores, holding over 320,000 cases, and the inspection depot at right, show up well in this picture.
