King Neptune's Day

King Neptune made his annual visit to Tahunanui Beach early in the new year. As usual, his young subjects gave him a wonderful welcome and he responded with free sweets. Later he judged the sand castle competitions.

As he came out of the water he must have been coming adrift a little for he received a few running repairs to his dress on the way up the beach.

Prize for the most original sand castle went to Ken Austin (Lower Hutt) and his mermaid sister, Glenda.

Selma Welsch and Helen Fitzgerald, both of Nelson, put the finishing touches to their castles
