Last month we printed a letter and photograph from a Christchurch visitor who complained that a big radio aerial on private property at the top of Princes Drive ruined the view of Tahuna Beach and the bay. The owner of the property has drawn our attention to another view of the beach and bay, obtainable from a point very close to the lookout, and giving an unobstructed view, We print it, above. While we were getting this pic, we couldn' t help but notice the view towards the hospital from the other side of the road. Nor could we escape the sight of a pile of household rubbish dumped over the fence. The perpetrators don' t only lack civic pride - they can' t have any. This viewpoint is used by more visitors than any other in Nelson and a pile of rubbish there is hardly a good advertisement for our city.

In various parts of New Zealand transport authorities are experimenting in some 30 m.p.h. areas with higher speed limits, such as 40 m.p.h. and in some cases Limited Speed Zones. Is there a case for a higher limit on the reconstructed Waimea Road from Bishopdale to the Beatson Road intersection (bottom intersection)? We think there is. A 40 m.p.h. limit would only legalise the speed that is being used by motorists on this section of the highway now.
