College Loses to Hutt Valley

The most memorable moments of the inter-school Rugby match between Nelson College and Hutt Valley High School were those during which Nelson scored three copybook tries through the backs. Much of the rest of the game was not worth remembering, and Nelson lost an on the whole scrappy encounter, 16-12. Inept kicking, tactical and line, prevented the game from flowing smoothly. College showed on three occasions that its backs, especially at the three-quarters, could swing the game its way, but when Hutt Valley consolidated its defences in the second half, the opportunity was gone. Outstanding feature of the game was the lineout play by John Calleson, and the strong running of centre, T. Lynskey, also stood out.
