Most of the considerable volume of freight handled by Newman's Bus Co in Nelson passes through the hands of George Way, who's been with the firm for nine years. George comes from an old Nelson family and he's married with three boys and a girl, all at school. He spends his leisure time building model aircraft, and reading.

Working hard to get his new business on a sound footing is Maurie Zainie, proprietor of Nelson Car Painters, in the old Railways Department bus buildings in Hardy Street. Maurie, his wife and two children came to Nelson from Auckland 4½ years ago and after working as a spray painter for the New Zealand Electricity Department, began his own business. He's interested in all sport but has little time to participate.

An intense love of animals keeps Julie Evers busy when she's not working as an office clerk for Pickles, Perkins and Hadlee. Julie travels from her home at Upper Moutere to work each day. She was educated at Waimea College and has a brother and a sister, both at Motueka High School. She's also keen on cars and music.

Bert Langrope should know the "Banana Boat Song" off by heart, for he's the expert on bananas at Park Davis and Co, where he's a storeman packer. He's been with the firm for 15 years, and before coming to Nelson lived at Akaroa.

Knitting and sewing, and an interest in all sports, keeps Penny Boyce busy when she's not working as a waitress at the Panama Hotel. Penny comes from Motueka, and has three brothers and two sisters.
