By Helicopter To Mataki Lodge

Mataki Lodge, the latest adjunct to Nelson College teaching facilities, was officially opened by the Governor-General during his visit to Nelson. For those from Nelson who attended the opening function, there was a 98-mile trip by road to handle; for the ViceRegal party, the journey was much shorter and more comfortable, the trip being made by helicopter from Trafalgar Park. Two helicopters were used, one, flown by Mr John Reid, managing director of Helicopters N.Z. Ltd, taking the Governor-General and Geordie, and the other, flown by Mr John Hamilton, taking Sir Bernard's aide-de-camp, and the secretary of the Nelson College Board of Governors, Mr A. D. Fountain.
