Long Association With Motueka Post Office
Forty years in the Government service is a goal that not very many attain, and most of those who do have seen service in many different parts of the country. Not so Mr Nigel Thorne, who retired from the New Zealand Post Office at Motueka last month. Mr Thorne began his public service career in Motueka and with the exception of a period of war service, remained in Motueka until his retirement. He began work with the Post and Telegraph Department as a messenger and postman in 1926. Later, he was on the exchange, followed by the money order department. These pix were taken during a special social to mark his retirement. (Pix by John R. Sharp)
Nigel (foreground) admires a transistor radio presented him by the staff, watched by his wife, Mr M.T. Reedy, Nelson postmaster, and Mr B. J. Scullin (Motueka postmaster).
Present for the occasion and wishing each other health, were retired post-masters Bob Bell and Harvey Eves.
