Harvest Time
The earth, the sun and the rain have worked on the seeds and the trees throughout the summer. Now it is time to harvest the fruits of nature and like moths drawn to a flame, workers descend on the orchards and the tobacco fields and hop gardens. This is the story of the Nelson harvest - or at least a minute segment of it. The apple picking and packing pix were taken on the orchard of Allan Brown, Mapua.
Bringing in the crop: "Skinny" Brown (up ladder), Tangiao Haretuku (her third year on the orchard), Ellie Edwards, Auckland; Posy Braybrooke (Perth) and "Gordie" Buzby (Gore).
Eat while you pick is the motto of Posy Braybrooke
In the shed, Allan Brown stacks his traypacks ready for shipment to the inspection sheds
An English visitor, Jenny Posnett (Yorkshire) finishes a pack.

And on to the Ingles tobacco farm, Riwaka, where Beverley Ashman, (Sydney), May Jensen (Riwaka), Rona Taylor (Riwaka), Kathleen Terney (Sydney), Betty Marshall (Riwaka), Maureen Fry (Riwaka), Junior Temaro (Gisbome), Pat Cook (Riwaka), Gail Jensen and little Julie Cook are tying the last few loads of baccy.
