Riwaka Wins Bowling Title
The Riwaka four of Vince Fry won the Nelson Easter bowling tournament in an all-Nelson final at the Maitai Club's Green. Fry's team appeared to have the game well in hand after the opening head and held a 13-1 lead after six ends. His opponents, the four skipped by Horrie Ogier, came back strongly, however, but could not overhaul Fry's lead and lost 21-15. After early rain, the tournament went with a swing, with 464 bowlers from all parts of the country competing. Because of a day lost through rain the tournament was continued on Easter Sunday and it would appear that this practice may be followed in future tournaments.
Victory smiles from Bert Atkins, Merv Edwards, Bert Goodall and skip of the Riwaka side, Vince Fry.
