Big Day for Scouts and Cubs

Hundreds of Scouts and Cubs from all parts of the province converged on the Maitai Reserve last month to welcome their chief, Sir Charles Maclean, And what a wonderful welcome they did extend to him; and what a wonderful way he reciprocated. Arriving on a whistle stop tour of Nelson, Sir Charles shook hands with every one of the several hundred Cubs, had a share of the food cooked in Maori ovens and took the seat of honour at the campfire, the climax of the evening. In between, he strode around the camp and shook hands with bewildering speed.
