Thrilling Duel in Beach Racing Title
For several years now, the South Island beach motor-racing championship race has been a pretty tame affair, with nobody able to challenge the supremacy of Neil Stuart and his V8 Special. The exception was this season's race, a thrilling affair, in which Alan Rhodes battled his way to victory in his Zephyr Special. Stuart, driving a new car, a Jaguar Special, hotly contested the race, but had to pull out towards the end with overheating.
The field takes the eastern bend for the first time. Rhodes leads, then Stuart, then P. Leversedge and closely attended by E. Read in his Daimler, L. Harris (Chev-Jaguar Special) and L. Evans (Grieve).
