Expensive And Impermanent

×

This is a picture of a new ramp being erected at the hospital. It's function is to provide access to wards on a split level at present served by a lift. The lift, now antiquated, is to be replaced and it is estimated that it will not be operational for at least six months. in the meantime, food trolleys and beds etc. will be moved up and down via the ramp. This mammoth structure, costing about £2000, will be pulled down when the lift is functioning. It seemed to us that a less expensive means of egress, such as a "dumb waiter" type of lift, or even a solid scaffold ramp would have served equally well. Such a lot of effort for such a lot of money for so short a time.
