Deer skins for export
Thousands of deer skins collected in Christchurch are being trimmed and dried in Nelson in preparation for their shipment overseas. The skins from deer shot in the South Island reach Nelson in a "raw" state, and in a building in Annesbrook operated by Booth and Co the skins are processed and baled and returned to Christ-church. It appears there is no noxious trade licence issued in Christchurch, hence the traffic. At the present rate the staff in Nelson expect to handle about 26,000 skins a year.
