Preparing For Sea
The activity shown by keen yachties and boaties in the basements, sheds, backyards and even lounges of their properties during the winter season was stepped up recently with the knowledge summer is just around the corner. We peeped in on a few of them.
The pix on this page are of the 57ft motor-sailer being built by Jack Baigent at Annesbrook. It's a monster, albeit a beautiful one, and already it has kept Jack occupied for five years. A few interesting facts: the main stick will be 68ft long and the vessel will carry 2325sq ft of sail. It has sleeping accommodation for eight in three cabins and the main saloon. The saloon occupies an area of 165 sq ft. Jack has made and placed 7400 copper bolts in the hull.
A pic of the working plan of Athol Burns, Wellington, gives some indication of the size of the vessel
