Moutere Hills Fruit Show
Special significance was attached to this year's Moutere Hills Fruit Show held in mid-April, for it marked the 50th anniversary of the first commercial apple planting in the Tasman district. The first tree was believed to have been planted by Mrs E. J. Volmer in June, 1911, on land which it is understood is now the property of Mr T. T. Wards, The Bluffs.
The Champion of Champions Blue Ribbon award for the best case of apples exhibited was won by a Mariri orchardist, Mr J. L. R. Fraser, who also took the J. A. Fraser Challenge Cup, donated by his father, for the best case of hand-picked fruit. The. J. W. Brash Cup, for the best two cases of fruit extracted from an export load, was won by Mr B. Ward, of Barley's Road, Tasman. Picture by Peter Cooper Studio.
