The Friend family take more than an ordinary interest in cricket. All four boys are Waimea Cricket Association representatives and the father, Mr E. R. Friend, is president of the association. Standing are Brian and Teddy, and seated with Mr Friend, George and Stan.

Alan Hunter, of 45 Cleveland road, sent us in these pics of a white-throated shag he found walking quite unconcerned along Weka street one day. The bird wandered into the back yard of a house (left) where he had a good look round. Mr Hunter took him down to the water at Rocks Road and shortly after this second pic. was taken he took off for parts unknown.
