Changing Face of Nelson

In the last few years. Nelson's skyline and its face have had quite an uplift. New buildings of up to five storeys have sprung up and others are still being constructed. The new George Manson block and nurses' home at the hospital, and the Clarice Johnston hostel at the girls' college, are three of the biggest. On the reclamation the new apple and pear store and milk treatment station are being joined by a new factory for the Dorman Engineering Company and a pre-fabricated steel serpentine store of unusual design. In the city, the new police station and new pre-mises for Burns Philp in Halifax Street, are nearing completion and Logan Motors have just opened the latest word in service stations in Vanguard street. All this building speaks well for the economic future of Nelson.

In this building on the reclamation, the Dorman Engineering Co will handle most of its heavy industrial work. It has a floor space of about 9000 sq. ft.

Increasing serpentine exports demanded storage space. This building, or unusual high-pitched design, will be used for that purpose. This picture was taken before the roof was raised.
