When this petrol tanker pulled up on the verge of the road around Queen Charlotte Drive (Grove Track) during the holiday period, the road gave way and tanker and driver, Fred Matthews, of Blenheim, went over the side. The laden tanker lost its load and the straight chassis broke apart Just behind the cab during its 170ft descent. Fred was not injured. (Peter Cooper pic)
