King Neptune's Day
The big day for the kiddies over the holiday period was King Neptune's Day at the beach. As usual King Neptune deigned to leave his watery domain for a short time to officiate at sandcastle building, races and treasure hunts.

Here he holds the placegetters in the sand-castle contest for under nines - Maree Lock and Gary Whiting (both Nelson) and Jennifer Thomas (Christchurch).
Outstanding exhibit was that of Sandra Clark (Timaru) who carved the North Island out of the sand.
