College Music Festival
As in other years when we have covered the final rehearsal for the Nelson College music festival, we left the college assembly hall quite amazed. In the hall were hundreds of pupils (and boys at that) who, at a wave of a baton shed their individuality and became a voice or an instrument in harmony. And if we were thrilled by the choral items, we were astounded by the efforts of the massed orchestra. They are not to be compared with, say, the N.B.C. orchestra, but the amazing feature is that under the care of Mr Ralph Lilly, boys who a few years ago were unable to play an instrument, now have their places in a massed orchestra. We feel that this speaks volumes for the time and effort Mr Lilly puts into his work.
