Golf Opening:

The Nelson Golf Club opened the 1961 season on March 18 in lovely weather. Frequent showers in February and March had the links looking a picture. The club is making a drive for new members this year, first-year members being offered a reduced sub and coaching at Saturday morning clinics. Here Mrs R. A. Mace drives off watched by other players on first tee.

Lucas Cup Retained:

Nelson had little difficulty in retaining the Lucas Cup, the Seddon Shield of tennis, when it beat Marlborough by 12 games to 4 at Nelson. Since the cup was first presented in 1949, Nelson has lost it only once, to Marlborough in 1951. This pic was taken shortly after the presentation.Bill Scol-tock, team captain, has cup.
