Work Before Pleasure At The Trots

With the exception of a small meeting in the North Island, the Nelson Trotting club's winter meeting at Richmond was the last major meeting of the season. Big entries from all parts of New Zealand came forward, with a strong representation from the South Island. On this page we have portrayed in part the work that goes hand in hand with putting horses on the track on race days.

The first day of the meeting was extremely cold and damp underfoot, but with the exception of a couple of light showers, was fine. The track, however, was very heavy, making the going unpleasant. After a 9 degree frost on the Monday the day was fine but later overcast and raw.
