Power Goes Underground

Nelson residents and visitors to our city have noticed the changes for the better on Trafalgar Street since the power and telephone lines went underground. Underground reticulation, however, is not going to stop there. The council's policy is to continue with this underground reticulation and in other parts of the city this policy is being pursued.

At top, men of the council's electricity department have just dismantled an overhead transformer and one of these two monstrous poles will be removed.

Overhead transformers now give way to transformers housed in proper sub-stations. This one, being checked by George Brydon, is in Alma Street.
