Ups-A-Daisy

In the last issue we printed pics of the decorative units which were to be raised and fitted in the main columns of the Nelson Cathedral tower. At that time we had little idea of just how the two-ton mullion and beam and tracery units would be raised. We soon found out when the job commenced. At the foot of the tower, wooden tracks were made and along these were run two heavy-duty trolleys used to wheel the heavy units to a point from which they could be winched into place. Then we followed the progress of the units to their final resting places. We saw steel keys on each side of the units slipped into "keyholes" and welded into permanent place.
