Hawke Cup Moves On

After a stay of six years in the province, the Hawke Cup, symbol of minor cricket association supremacy, was taken to the Manawatu over Anniversary Day weekend. In those six years Nelson achieved the remarkable record of meeting and defeating 27 challengers for the trophy and, what is even more to its credit, winning in two consecutive years the Technos Trophy, awarded to the New Zealand major or minor association team playing the brightest cricket. In the period, also, the team scored 14,078 runs. We extend our congratulations to the team on its wonderful record and to Manawatu, who did – and did very well – what none of the other 27 challengers could do.
