The old year, 1964, got a rousing send-off from thousands of teenagers and older folk at the Post Office clock on New Year's Eve. So great was the din that the chiming of midnight could not be heard from our vantage spot across the road. The crowd was fairly orderly, although quite a few were not in a condition to know just what they were celebrating.
