To help further the knowledge of diabetes and diabetics, the Nelson Diabetic Society has presented a cup to the Nelson St John Ambulance for competition. The president of the society, Mr George Derbidge, makes the presentation to Superintendent Bob Crawford,

Dr J. M. Hoy, of Gisborne, who has been appointed director of the entomology division of the D. S. I. R., Nelson. Before his appointment Dr Hoy was senior principal scientific officer in the entomology division, leading a research team on the control of two of New Zealand's most important insect pests, grass grub and proina.

From Mrs Faith Walker, wife of Gerald Walker, comes this pic of her husband operating a tapping machine in a shop window in Kaiapoi during the recent Braille Week, Gerald, formerly of Richmond and well-known as the driver of a Hutton's van, became totally blind recently.

Mr O. F. May, postmaster at Richmond for the last six years, retired at the end of last month after 42 years with the department. Alec Jacobsen gave us this pic of him.
