From the turn of a year till well into the winter, this is a very familiar sight at Port Nelson. Aptly named the "fruitbowl of New Zealand", Nelson district exports to all parts of the world the produce of its vast orchards. This year the New Zealand Apple and Pear Board will ship from Nelson over 1 million cases of apples on 18 ships. The vessel shown here, the Megantic, alone took 129,000 cases.
