Sixteen Hutt Valley deer stalkers spent Queen's Birthday weekend tramping the tops around Lake Rotoiti in search of their favourite game. And they didn't go home disappointed. Several members landed chamois and quite a few deer were sighted.

Robyn Sanson and Marlene Steiner, both of Otorohan– ga, were hitch-hiking through Nelson. They got quite a shock and then a thrill as Bob Bright and Horace Hewitson, on the way to the ploughing match at Appleby in a traction engine, stopped and picked them up. The queerest hitched ride we've ever heard of!
