At first glance it appears as if we ve photographed a building on the skew, but a closer examination reveals that what Frank McKinley's leaning up against is a huge sheet of glass. And he stayed leaning there until it was time to remove the glass to its window at C. T. Webley's building in Bridge Street. And why did he lean when there was work to do? Because that sheet of glass was valued at about £170 and it had to be imported specially, so the glaziers were taking no chances. To ensure that it did not get caught in a gust of wind when it was being manoeuvred into position, a wind break was erected and the glass received very careful treatment as it travelled the short distance from packing case to window (below).
