Record Hawke Cup Cricket Score

It would seem that if Nelson is ever to lose the Hawke Cup it will have to be given away. That was the impression gained at Trafalgar Park when in its 24th defence of the shield since 1958 Nelson amassed the record first innings score of 632 in the game against Waikato and later successfully defended the shield against Hawkes Bay at Napier. Outstanding features of this game were Barry Hampton's 236, Jim Black's' 127 for Nelson, and Bert Sutcliffe's 109 for Waikato - the first century to be scored against Nelson in cup matches since 1958.
