Greenmeadows Reconstruction

×

Before the end of this year Stoke will have probably the beat playing area in the city. Greenmeadows, in the heart of the shopping area, has catered for sporting clubs - mainly winter sports - for several years, but there has remained a large area of unlevelled and useless ground. Lately, huge earth-moving machines moved into the park and began the big job of levelling the park. All the top soil from the western end of the park was ripped up and shortly will commence the job of levelling it. The development of the park by the City Council can be followed from this aerial pic. The area at (A) will contaion 11 grass tennis courts: (C) and (E) will be laid out for Rugby fields and the blocks marked (D) are cricket pitches laid between the football fields. The field (F) will not be touched - this is the soccer field. The small changing room (B) will be shifted to an area close to (G). The Rugby fields will not be ready for this season's play, but the cricket blocks should be playable by next season.
