Tobacco Machines Made In Nelson

Many tobacco growers have thrown overboard the old and obsolete method of hand-tying the leaves to the sticks and now prefer to hand-pick and let a tying machine do the Job. Several of these machines were operating last season but this year, since the machines are now being made in Nelson, 34 more have placed orders. The machine is much faster and overcomes labour problems - three girls doing the job that used to be done by nine. These pix were taken at the Tahuna manufacturing works.
