Mr A. E. Eyles, district deputy Grand Master of the I. O. O. F., presents a cheque for £25 10s to Mr H. Rodgers, president of the Nelson Intellectually Handicapped Children's Society. The money was raised by carol singing. Others in the picture are Meadames M. Barr, G. Newport and K. H. Wright, all members of the society.

Mr Noel Avery's Mozart, who is a familiar sight to those using the Nelson-Richmond highway. "Mo", as he is affectionately known, raced successfully in New Zealand and Australia up till a couple of years ago as a hurdler and steeplechaser. Now, at 14, he is retired and lives a life of ease.

Evidently the Nelson Bowling Club has got fed-up with vandals driving cars over the bowling greens and has erected these obstacles to keep them out.

Ken Bolderston's 30ft trimaran on Port Nelson. The vessel is believed to be the largest of its kind in the South Island. Originally, Ken and friends intended to sail her to Cook, Tonga, Tahiti and New Caledonia, but this has been abandoned in the meantime because of crew problems. The vessel took about 3000 hours to build and includes accommodation for four.
