Chess Match
Twenty members of the Waimea College Chess Club pitted their brains against the Nelson chess champion, Dick Baker, at a simultaneous display at the college last month. Dick had a mammoth task, but he emerged victorious, winning 17 games to three lost. His losses were to B. Shaw, D. Ferguson and L. Bowman. The display created considerable interest among staff and pupils at the college and the big room was always well-filled with backseat critics.
