Diggers' Page

Here we are again, digs, still ploughing our way through Eric Gabites' fine collection of Second World war pix. Since our last issue we, like yourselves, were grieved to hear of the death of Lord 'Tiny'Freyberg, a man who, as commander of a large section of the New Zealand forces overseas, was known, loved and respected by diggers. We have been fortunate in securing the pic above, taken at a certain tea party, which shows Tiny (centre) with the late Mr Peter Fraser.

Many of you will remember these places. The town is Larissa, Greece, taken before and after German bombers had plastered the place with bombs.

Undoubtedly this view will also bring back memories. Recognise the street? The pic was taken from the top of the New Zealand Club looking down into El Dine Street, Cairo.

Three Nelsonians are included in this mob enjoying the tide at Baguish. They are the three in the forefront, Rex Delany and George Woolf (Takaka) and Len Jansen (ex-Nelson). Pic came from the collection of Geoff Gould.
