Mutton In Japan

For most of the year the two Japanese ladies shown on this page are kept busy in their own country selling New Zealand mutton to an everincreasing Japanese market. Recently, however, the New Zealand Meat Board decided to bring the two, Mrs Arai and Miss Ueda, the interpreter, to New Zealand to demonstrate to Dominion housewives how their Japanese counterparts cook mutton. So it was that they came to Nelson and in the School of Music, before a large and mixed crowd, we saw mutton cooked Japanese style. An innovation was the televising of the actual preparations and cooking, on closed circuit television and the audience watched the preparations per medium of TV sets installed around the hall.
