New Tyres For Old

We found a couple of tyres were getting to the retread stage recently so we got them fixed. While being retreaded we popped in to see just how the job was done and found it so fascinating we thought you also would like to know just what happens to those tyres you get refurbished. Here's the story.

First things first, so Jack checks the casing to see there are no splits

×

A high-speed grinding wheel on one of several machines specially made in Nelson, rips the old tread from the tyres.

The tyre is balanced

After the rubber has been added the tyre is placed in a mould and the tread cooked in at a predetermined temperature.

An adhesive is added to the tyre and the rubber strip, held by Jack, is placed around the tyre.
