Horses v. Horsepower

×

Feature event at the Atlantic Silver Plough ploughing contest at Appleby during Queen's Birthday weekend, was a tug-o'-war between an eight-horse team driven by Fergus O'Connor and a 40 h.p. tractor. At the first pull, the horses, not in unison, found the tractor hard to budge, but at the second attempt had no trouble dragging it across the paddock. Above the horses take the first strain, and below they are halted after pulling the tractor about 40 yards.
