Kaiteriteri Kapers

Feature items on the Motueka Jaycees' holiday project Kaitariteri Kapers, held at Kaiteriteri Beach, the swim of Barrie Devenport, Cook Strait pioneer swimmer, to Kaka Pah Point, and the ox roast, helped draw a big crowd to the beach. A cold wind in the afternoon chopped up the sea and made the going hard for Barrie and also kept a big proportion of the crowd on the comparatively warm beach. In the evening, however, a huge crowd gathered and thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, the ox, peas, and pud which had been prepared throughout the afternoon.
