Concrete on Wheels - New Style

For several months huge concrete containers mounted on trucks have been dropping their loads at building sites in and around Nelson. This concrete is made at a big plant at Tahuna, Now, a revolutionary new method of manufacture and distribution is being operated by Bill Gibbons. At his yards, shingle, sand, and cement is placed in a hopper and the aggregate conveyed to a giant mixer on a truck. The concrete is actually mixed on the way to the job. This method is widely used in Australia, but this concrete mixer on wheels is the first of its kind in New Zealand.

The aggregate is conveyed to the mixer by belt (this system is to be improved on later)

At the job, driver Ian McKenzie can adjust the consistency of the mix by adding a little more water from a tank.
