"Mrs Nelson" 1962

Mrs Barbara Leov, of Rai Valley, a dairy farmer's wife and mother of two small boys, was chosen to represent Nelson in the nation-wide search for "Mrs New Zealand", The final of the local contest was held in the Oddfellows' Hall where about 200 guests of 2XN saw Mrs Leov chosen. Mrs Leov carried the "Mrs Nelson" sash to Wellington for the national final. From our own observations of Mrs Leov, we can only conclude that the competition in Wellington must have been particularly tough for her to have missed out on a placing.

A big crowd gave Mrs Leov an equally big send—off when she drove to the airport in Andy Beattie's 1927 Vauxhall.
