"Our Town"

Repertory enthusiasts who went to the Theatre Royal to see the Repertory Society's first production for 1962, "Our Town," got quite a shock from the first moment they entered the theatre proper. The curtain was up, the stage bare, and, although the clock said 8, some character was wandering around setting up tables and chairs. This, however, was only one unusual aspect of what was an unusual production. The tables and chairs, plus a pair of steps, were the only props used; there was a lot of miming and every now and then the audience became part of the play as some member of the cast rose from the body of the theatre to perform some function. The play was produced by Frona King.
