This year's programme for the Nelson College athletic sports meeting included two new events, the javelin and pole vault, which provided the athletically-minded with tremendous interest. So high was the standard of the pole vaulting, that it was difficult to realise that the competitors had been practising for but a few months, Graeme Hall Watson, who won the event, gave an outstanding display to clear 10ft 3 ins, and G. Weinberg succumbed at 9ft 3¼ in.
